Cabinet Hardware That’s Safe for Kids

Safely installing cabinet hardware is a must, just as is buying pieces that are safe for them. You don’t want items that are going to break easily, have sharp edges or hurt them in any way. It’s all about thinking of the kids before you purchase anything.

Buy cabinet hardware with smooth surfaces, nothing too ornate that could hurt little ones’ hands. Though it may not hurt you, their hands are a lot more fragile than ours are. Make sure they are installed tightly. A loose pull can come off in a child’s hands and send them reeling back, an accident waiting to happen. Check the screws on pulls often, tightening them when needed.

Be careful with infants and toddlers in the kitchen as they love to run around and since their about the height of the hardware, could get hurt if they bump their heads into one. Always make sure they are supervised if in the kitchen. With this in mind, it is recommended to buy something a little softer than the brass pulls you may have been looking at. Plastics may be better for kids in general, no matter what age. Keep the kids in mind when shopping and limit potential issues!
