The Effect of New Cabinet Finishes
My wife Chelsea and I were redoing our kitchen last month. It wasn’t a complete overhaul, times are too tough for us to spend ten thousand dollars on new refrigerator, but we did change the look of things. We bought new cabinet door hardware, for example, to match the newly re-stained cabinet finishes. The finish hardware we moved to is classic black cast iron knobs. Against the mahogany finish the result is a very classy look.
We bought a new black microwave to match the finish hardware and my wife really wanted a new refrigerator, but I had to put my foot down. Our refrigerator works fine, and is big enough for our family. With college for my older one just two years away, we will have even more space in the refrigerator (and in the bank). I said we really don’t need a new one. It’s stainless steel, so it’s not like it looks out of place really. But Chelsea was mad at me still.
I sat her down and said, listen, we just gave the kitchen a facelift. We don’t have the funds or the necessity for a total reconstruction. She was sore but when all the kitchen cabinet knobs were installed and she saw how nice they looked, she felt better.
