Finding the Right Knob
Before you decide if you want antique, chrome, or brass door knobs, you first must decide what type of door knob you need. Did you know there are actually four main types of door knobs? I’m not talking about kitchen cabinet knobs though, I mean ones for the doors to the rooms in your home. Lets go over the four main types:
- Entrance – These door knobs are used on the doors that lead to the outside. Most often, people will choose a traditional round knob, but you can use lever-style handles too.
- Privacy – A privacy door knob is used on the doors for bedrooms and bathrooms. They will lock but you don’t need a key to open them.
- Passage – A passage door knob is one that does not have a lock on it. It is used on closets or doors that have no need to be locked. They are also called closet or hall door knobs.
- Dummy – These knobs are used for aesthetic purposes only. You can find them on the inactive side of French doors.
