The Magic of Aged Bronze Venetian Switch Plates
Switch plates can make a big difference in the way you organize your room. Perhaps you want aged bronze Venetian switch plates. You can then be transported to a Venetian salon with the light palates and grand scales of Tintoretto and Titian, Guardi and Bellini. Feel the curtains blow with a Mediterranean breeze, and look out your window and imagine the gondoliers in their zebra shirts, pushing through the deep canals of Venice.
Imagine the Piazza San Marco, with hundreds of pigeons and old arcades protecting visitors and natives from the bright white light of a Venetian summer. Turn on your lights and close the window to imagine that you reside in a villa, just a stone’s throw away from the Grand Canal.
On the other hand you can go with your average white switch plates. Just another boring afternoon in the dog days of summer. It’s hot, as usual. You wish you were on vacation, at the beach, or anywhere with water. It would be so nice to go to Venice.
Switch plates, door knob hardware, these details make a big difference in how you live. You don’t have to be bored with ordinary switch plates if you choose nice ones from the beginning. Visit www.Knobbery.com to get the most out of yours.

Brass Door Knobs: How They Changed the Game
Brass door knobs never go out of style. There’s something so satisfying about grasping cool door knob hardware. You don’t get the same feeling when you have levers.
Door knob hardware was patented in 1878. Since then the world has never been the same. Access to inner sanctums was transformed from a schlepping a bolted heavy door to a easily opening a door with a turn of the wrist. With that ease came the ability to sneak into certain places. And so other reactions to the easy access arose. If you didn’t want to deadbolt your door, there was always the possibility of having a secret password.
Door knob hardware has become part of American popular culture. Watch and see:
The Marx Brothers never could have been famous if this scene took place with a gated entry!

That Morning Feeling
You walk into the kitchen and desire food. There are different places to look. The cabinet. The cabinet knobs are smooth and cool against your fingertips. This pleasurable touch heightens your other senses: you notice the smooth chestnut grain of your cabinet doors, you feel the chilled stone underneath your feet, you hear a bird call outside the window, like it is egging you on to make breakfast. The stale taste of morning lingers in your throat and you remember your purpose here: food.
The kitchen cabinet knobs inspired you in this slight way. They provided that touch of elegance, that feeling of luxury that can be so often overlooked. You fix yourself some cereal and put on a pot of coffee. When you take that first sip, you sigh, and are awake. It’s like you took off your morning glasses and now you can start your day. But that first touch of the cabinet knobs that made you think so differently, that was inspiration, that was real.
You look at the brass door knobs to your closet as you are getting dressed and touch them, wanting to feel it again. And you do, for a second, but it’s forced, you can’t duplicate that morning sensation of innocence.

Cat’s Operating Doorknobs!
It would seem the Velocraptor isn’t the only animal that knows how to open doors
We recently viewed a video (seen below) of a house cat leaping into the air and operating a door knob to get the door open. It’s quite the impressive, entertaining sight, as most acrobatic feats accomplished by cats are remarkable viewing material. This one, which features a house pet operating door knob hardware, is no exception.
It turns out, YouTube is littered with videos of animals opening doors. Typically its cats, but there are also clips of dogs, ferrets, and even horses turning door knobs so enter and exit different areas.
Of course, the motives of this door-opening cat can be questioned. While the title of the YouTube video itself claims that the cat is opening the door to let his buddy in, one can’t help but notice the door-opening cat seems more interested in going outside itself, as opposed to hanging out with his fellow cat.
Regardless of whatever the motives for door-opening was, it is clearly an impressive feat for an animal with no thumbs to operate a piece of door knob hardware. Not to mention it jumps vertically approximately four-times its own size.

Creepy Door Knob Handles
Here’s a doorknob I’m not a fan of. The light bulb door handle is designed by Jeong-Sun Park and has an internal generator that illuminates in the dark. My first reaction was “Wait… doesn’t it get really hot?” but apparently that’s not the case. However, this is not exactly one of your typical kitchen cabinet knobs; it’s designed for the bathroom to guide you at night. But if your road to the bathroom is so dark you can’t even see the handle, I imagine a floating orb of light in the midst of darkness is just going to be scary.
Another piece of door knob hardware I found extraordinarily creepy is the fingerprint handle from designer Philip Watts. The iamge I got from this was red-hot hands that actually burned into the metal, which then brought me to the image of a convict burning his fignernails off… what can I say, I’m twisted. Besides, I can’t imagine the grip on that is very comforting either, as I’d probably try to fit my fingertips in the slots perfectly every time and just end up hurting myself.

As far as brass door knobs go, this has got to be one of the creepiest. At first I thought it was cool looking, and thought it was a neat idea that would make.
Then I started imagining some living, breathing, killer house, where the hand-shaped door handle actually reaches out and grabs you. Not a very comforting thought at all, and the truth is, once that thought popped in my head, it wasn’t going away.

Knobs Or Pulls? You Decide!
An amateur would say it’s not that big a deal. But that’s exactly why they’re labeled as an amateur.
The cabinet knob vs. pull debate is one of the most underrated in home décor. Every day, every time you reach for the drawer… which can in some cases be dozens of times daily… you’re going to be reaching for that cabinet knob. Or will it be a pull?
The easiest, least creative choice during the debate is making everything match. The cabinet knob should match the door knob. Of course, you can get a little fancy with it, interchanging the two. A great example is the picture featured in this blog post.
Personally… and this is just me, of course… (though for the record, I have been able to open cabinet drawers, regardless of whether it’s a pull or a knob, my entire life, and therefore am an expert) but I prefer cabinet knobs. I’m big on individualism, on uniqueness, and personalization. And because of this passion for the distinctive, I’ll usually go with knobs, because they typically come in a ton more patterns, styles, and designs than pulls.
But that’s just the way that I roll. What’s your decision?
